Elliot's Three Serious Rules For Using Humor in Speeches
Make fun of yourself to build a bridge; use everyday foibles, failings and frustrations.
(Strive to add humor everyone can relate to.)
Make sure the humorous story or joke relates to the mission of your speech. (This takes
practice, especially if you are good at being funny.)
Be appropriate, clean and non-controversial. (Never single out or comment about an
individual in the audience unless that person relates directly to the speech.)
